THE SHOP CODE
Good work. Straight answers. No funny business.
Welcome to Nocturne Labs.
We're an independent digital workshop. We fix what's broken, build what's missing, and create what doesn't exist yet.
We're not here to sell you a dream, schedule six meetings about it, and send you an invoice for the conversation.
We're here to get things done.
But every good shop has rules. Here's ours.
01 — COME AS YOU ARE. JUST COME CORRECT.
You don't need to know programming, cybersecurity, or what an API is. That's our department.
Tell us what's going on, what you're trying to accomplish, and what you've already tried. We'll take it from there.
You bring the problem. We bring the tools. Respect goes both ways.
02 — YOUR EMERGENCY ISN'T AUTOMATICALLY OUR EMERGENCY.
We understand things break. Sometimes at the worst possible moment.
But showing up at 11:47 PM with a problem you've ignored for six months doesn't automatically put you at the front of the line.
Urgent work depends on availability, complexity, and an agreed priority.
We'll tell you what we can realistically do. No imaginary deadlines. No promises pulled out of thin air.
03 — THE PRICE IS THE PRICE. THE SCOPE IS THE SCOPE.
We explain what you're paying for before work begins.
If you want something added, removed, or changed, we'll discuss the impact on cost and timing first.
A website doesn't quietly turn into a full business management system because somebody said, "While you're in there..."
That's a different job, neighbor.
04 — NO SURPRISE CHARGES. NO SURPRISE WORK.
We don't start billable work without the appropriate approval.
You won't wake up to an invoice for something you never authorized.
And we won't quietly add features, services, or subscriptions to your project.
If the plan changes, we talk first.
05 — WE DON'T DO SHORTCUTS THAT COME BACK TO HAUNT YOU.
Sometimes a temporary fix makes sense. Sometimes it's just duct tape holding together a problem that's about to get expensive.
We'll explain the difference.
If a shortcut creates unreasonable security, legal, or operational risks, we reserve the right to decline it.
We're here to solve problems, not manufacture future ones.
06 — WE RESPECT YOUR TIME. RESPECT OURS.
We don't believe every conversation needs a meeting.
Clear messages, documented decisions, and reasonable response times go a long way.
But if we need information, access, or approval to move forward, the project may have to wait until we receive it.
We can't build around missing answers and good intentions.
07 — YOUR SYSTEM ISN'T OUR PLAYGROUND.
We only access systems we're authorized to work on.
No unauthorized account access, spying, harassment, stolen information, or requests to investigate someone without a legitimate basis.
If you don't have the authority to authorize the work, we can't take the job.
That's not us being difficult. That's us having standards.
08 — WE OWN OUR MISTAKES. YOU OWN YOUR DECISIONS.
If we make an error within the agreed scope, we'll address it according to our agreement.
If you request a change after approving the original direction, we'll explain what that means for the project.
Nobody benefits from finger-pointing.
We document decisions so everybody knows where things stand.
09 — DEPOSITS AREN'T A HANDSHAKE AND A WINK.
Before money changes hands, you'll receive the applicable payment terms.
Deposits, milestones, cancellations, and refunds follow the agreement you've accepted and applicable law.
We're not interested in mystery charges, surprise subscriptions, or arguments over terms nobody bothered to explain.
10 — YOUR WORK DESERVES A PROPER HANDOVER.
When a project is complete, we'll provide the agreed deliverables and explain any applicable access, ownership, licensing, and support arrangements.
Third-party software and licensed materials may have their own terms.
We're not holding your project hostage.
But we're also not promising ownership of things we don't legally own.
11 — RESPECT THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE WORK.
You can disagree with us. You can question an estimate. You can tell us something isn't working. That's business.
Threats, harassment, discrimination, and abusive behavior are not.
We're professionals. We expect the same courtesy in return.
12 — WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO SAY NO.
Not every project belongs in our shop.
Sometimes the timing doesn't work. Sometimes the scope isn't a fit. Sometimes we're simply not the right people for the job.
We'll be straightforward about that.
A declined project isn't a personal insult.
It's better than taking your money for work we can't responsibly deliver.
13 — FINISHED DOES NOT MEAN FROZEN IN TIME.
A completed project is a delivered product, not a promise that technology will never change or break.
Software is built from interconnected systems. An update, a changed API, a browser revision, or a new business requirement can introduce unexpected problems.
That is reality. It is not an excuse for sloppy work.
We test before deployment, identify known limitations, and explain what has and has not been verified.
When something breaks, we investigate it, communicate what we find, and address it according to the agreed support arrangements.
We do not promise software will never encounter a problem. We promise to take engineering quality and accountability seriously.
THE BOTTOM LINE
No games. No mystery invoices. No moving the goalposts.
You don't have to understand the machinery.
You just need to tell us what you're trying to accomplish, communicate honestly, and respect the process.
We'll do the same.

Nocturne Labs runs this site and the client portal.
- What we collect
- What you send through a work order, the portal or linked messaging: your name, email, company, project details and messages, plus files you upload and signature records (name, time, document fingerprint) when you sign.
- Why
- To review, quote, deliver and bill your job, and to keep a security log of actions taken on it. Never for advertising.
- Who else sees it
- It is never sold. It's shared only with the providers needed to do the work — secure hosting, card payment processing, AI tools that help prepare (never approve) work, and the messaging channel you choose — and only as much as the job requires.
- Your choices
- Ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion of anything we're not required to keep (like payment and signature records).
